I got confused for awhile about why the Man
\nin Black insisted, after he killed Emily and
\nwas speaking aloud as if Ford could hear him,
\nthat Juliet had no way to know about his
\nprofile unless Ford had told her about it.
\nThat claim didn’t make sense to me because
\nEmily told him only a minute earlier that
\nJuliet had had the profile card.<\/p>\n

Eventually it occurred to me that when Ford
\ngave the card to William at the party, he
\ndidn’t use the word ‘profile.’ Ford used
\ndifferent terms — “self knowledge” and
\n“self-portrait” — and never explicitly said
\nthe card contained the project’s analysis of
\nWilliam. Because William wasn’t interested
\nin playing Ford’s games, he never viewed the
\ncontents of the card, and in the wake of
\nJuliet’s death he forgot about it entirely.
\nIn other words, the Man in Black might not
\nhave realized the profile card Emily
\nmentioned was the card Ford gave him, until
\nhe saw it in dead Emily’s hand and puzzled it
\nout.<\/p>\n

However, if that interpretation is correct,
\nit implies another minor mystery: The Man in
\nBlack said he never told anyone about his
\nprofile, which strongly suggests he knew his
\nprofile, which implies he learned his profile
\nanother way, not by viewing the profile card
\nFord gave him. How did he learn his profile?<\/p>\n

I’m not entirely satisfied. I don’t see how
\nthe Man in Black could rule out the
\npossibility that, days or weeks before
\nJuliet’s suicide, Ford could have told her
\nWilliam’s profile or given her another copy
\nof William’s profile card. If he can’t rule
\nthat out, I see no reason for him to rule out
\nthe possibility that Emily learned his
\nprofile from Juliet. So he had no reason to
\nconclude Emily lied and wasn’t human. He
\nglitched… as humans do from time to time.
\nAs would Forgeries, since they’re high
\nfidelity copies of humans.<\/p>\n
