First time emailing!Just wanted to address Ash\u0092s comment that she feels this is a mediocre show with exceptional moments each week. That is an opinion and you are entitled to that opinion but this show has been so much more than mediocre in my eyes. Please do not take what I am about to say in an overly critical way. Because I look forward to all of your podcasts! I enjoy your insights and takes on the shows I watch. I know how much time you put into the shows and your audience! I know you care and I care and I contribute because of it. All of that being established, we have never been farther apart on a show before. You guys haven\u0092t talked about any of the themes and talking points that I have written down each episode. Usually we are in synch. Just as you guys have been a bit disappointed in the timing in some episodes, I have a feeling of a shallow take on the episodes from you guys. By shallow I mean maybe from a fear of offending someone not really delving into ideas that you may not think you know enough about. But not being an expert on the black experience shouldn\u0092t keep you from talking about something. The audience will correct and we will all learn. I\u0092m saying this as a white woman! Let me give you just one example of what I am talking about. Episode 3 was full of blood and death and rebirth through blood. Dracula was brought in to tie the theme together throughout. The goat was sacrificed and the blood was used to cleanse, the blood in the sexual encounter. But a discussion never really happened about the importance of blood, which has become an overarching theme. Or as to why Leti was more comfortable with this version of her beliefs than the Holy Ghost within the church. In Episode three the encounter with the police officer was significant. And the conflict between Leti and her sister and how beautifully that was portrayed. The tension between Atticus and his father. Blood may be thicker than water, but it doesn’t wash away all resentments as we see. I guess, I am not feeling like the podcast is really deep diving like we did in West World. But, again, my talking points and yours were more in line with that show. Back to my original point… the talking points that I find so interesting and that I find myself pondering on throughout the week… that means it’s great TV to me. I’m not getting paid to think about it again. I’m watching it for entertainment but I am thinking about it. Not even the story itself, but the characterizations that I do not even understand yet. Why are they doing that? Why does he do the things he does? That is great TV. The story is good too. And as far as I am concerned,mixing the Goonies and Raiders of the Lost Ark and peppering Pirates of the Carribean in for good measure is just darned entertaining. Sorry if I am cliched. I am a simple person. If the characters are written so well that the story can be cliched (which I really do not think it is), then it’s a great show with great actors. In case there is time to include my thoughts for this week ( I think it’s too late). All I kept thinking the entire episode is each person has a different idea of what it is going to take to change things and no idea of what they want to change things to. Leti thinks that together, as a unit, they can find the pages. Atticus thinks that he can find the pages by himself. Montrose thinks that if they find the pages, they still cannot change anything. Ruby thinks she can depend on herself to change her circumstances. Christine thinks the Book of Adam is going to change everything. No one really has a clear idea as to what they want to change to. We are left to wonder that. Whoever diciphers the pages will get to make that choice I am assuming… That is better than mediocre to me.See you on the flip side!
