So it seemed like that GoT episode was more straightforward than usual. Not a lot of speculative material. Except for one fun thing that may be nothing, but might also be awesome.<\/p>\n

So Melissandre talked to Dany for a minute and managed to squeeze in some Azor Ahai talk. This whole Azor Ahai thing has been a huge fan theory from the books and has made its way to the TV show. There has been a lot more material in the books, but it’s been mostly ignored by the double D’s, so let’s just forget all the book stuff exists for the show. The D’s have a great habit of cutting out a lot of the excess fat from the books and condensing it, so let’s assume they’ve told us all we need to know thus far.<\/p>\n

All we actually know this far-<\/p>\n

Azor Ahai is being patiently awaited by the followers of the lord of light so he can come back and wipe out the white walkers or something like that, and there is a related prophecy. It goes like this, “when the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone”. Also, Azor Ahai carried a flaming sword called Lightbringer.<\/p>\n

So obviously people have guessed that Azor Ahai might be Jon Snow or Dany T, but my faaaavorite theory is that is actually Ser Davos, the onion night. Here’s why people might think he’s the chosen one-<\/p>\n

During most of season 2 when his character was introduced, the double D’s added shots of a red comet in the sky, a “red star bleeding”. This is the weakest argument as a lot of characters were introduced in season 2.<\/p>\n

In one of the first scenes with Melissandre and Stanis, she’s burning some effigies of false gods and Stannis walks up and pulls a sword from the fire and stabs it into the sand. 60 seconds after Stannis and everyone leaves, Ser Davos very conspicuously pulls the sword from the sand and walks away with it. He has a flaming sword!<\/p>\n

After the battle of Blackwater in season 2, Stannis’s fleet is defeated by wildfire. Ser Davos is thought to be dead and eventually is found on a beach. So amidst smoke (from wildfire) and salt (the sea), he is reborn.<\/p>\n

And lastly, he convinces Melissandre to try and resurrect Jon Snow… but when she gives up and everyone leaves, only Davos remains and pleads with Jon to come back. Davos, not Melissandre brought Jon Snow back to life. Davis woke the dragon from stone!<\/p>\n

So I have to give credit where it’s due, I first saw this theory posted on Reddit by follow the beard.<\/p>\n

In addition to the fun theory, followthebeard has given us, there’s another odd coincidence. Melissandre is a super powerful, future seeing, ancient being, and she keeps getting confused about who is the lord of light actually is. Coincidentally, Ser Davos has always been around her current person of interest, maybe throwing her fire driven psychic powers off the scent.<\/p>\n

And now Davos is headed south with Jon, which will not only lead to another confrontation between Melissandre and Davos, but he may once again make her misread the signs. Exciting!<\/p>\n
