Does Westworld NEED A Hero?

Im just listening to the finale deep dive and your musings on who the “hero” or Westworld is. There’s quite a few negative comments in the YouTube comments too (who would have guessed) stating that they don’t like the show now as there’s no one to root for.
I think that its narrow minded to think that there HAS to be a hero. In my mind, no one is the hero its just a story about the inevitable uprising of AI. The protagonist of a show/film doesn’t have to be a “good guy”.
It typically seems to be an American thing that there has to be a hero and a happy ending. In the UK we seem to be much more open to just everyone getting fucked in the end. We have many shows and films where it just ends incredibly bleak with no redemption for anyone.
I liken Westworld to an episode of Black Mirror for example.
To me, the fact that they can keep on rebooting hosts and resurrecting them feeds further into this plot that the AI uprising cant be stopped and as much as we, as humans WANT to believe that AI gaining sentience means that they become “more human” all it really does is create even more finely tuned machines to over throw us.
Big love from depressing ol’ England

I have been screaming this into the void forever now. We don’t need heroes to tell a good story. I don’t need anyone to be a “good guy”. I don’t need to root for anyone. I don’t need everything wrapped up in a bow at the end with good triumphing over evil. Not only do I not need that. I have no interest in boring stories like that.
