The Night Before the Final Night

Hi Gene & Big D,

I am not sure if my email will reach you guys, but given all my angst I decided to send this email out even if it goes to the void. Warning this email may exceed critical levels of geekdom!

First, I agree with Courtney who left the BOLD prediction on voicemail. She stated that Dany may end her own life. I believe that this is in character for Dany, but I don’t think it would come from a sudden realization of what wrongs she has bestowed upon Westeros. I believe that if Dany did this it would be a continuation of her breaking the wheel. Because now she is just as evil as all the other evils. But, would this be the most surprising thing to happen?

I started thinking of unexpected and crazy “what ifs”, while listening to yesterday’s small council for a 3rd or 4th time tonight as I am working on my Game of Thrones Series Finale Dinner –

1. What if we are seeing Bran’s vision again? And, at the moment that Dany is looking at her King’s Landing prior to torching it- Bran shared his vision some way or somehow. Which would mean that when she comes out and sees the city burning and her army standing at attention, we are taken back to her on the dragon. We then get a different result, a different Cersei event, a different Arya event….it would be so crazy, but not as crazy as my second what if…. 2. What if all that has occurred is Bran’s vision while he was still at the Godswood during the Long Night….and we actually are taken back to the aftermath of that battle in the Long Night with an unimaginable loss of life….And, why we see Arya who is already dead because everyone is dead….

Now, I am praying that nothing crazy like this happens because it would feel like a betrayal of what this series has been about, but when thinking of the unexpected those two things came to mind. I am probably just terrified because this has happened one too many times for me….I hope Big D’s version of dragons flying about, and a benevolent Dany come about – and that King’s Landing name is changed to New Valyria.

Finally, there is a scene from the Last of the Starks that is haunting me. It’s when Jon, Sansa, Arya, and Bran are under the Godswood before Jon shares the ultimate secret. In that scene, it is Arya and only Arya who is making the statements that “You are my brother, not my half – brother”. Sansa didn’t echo her words. And, it was Arya who swore to keep secret whatever Jon was about to tell them without hesitation. It makes me think that Sansa loyalty is not with Jon (this was proved by how quickly she broke her vow and spread this secret). But, I think it speaks to a larger point that Sansa is a bigger threat to Jon than we know. She knows she is better at running the North than he is, and back in season 7 she was openly disagreeing with him. I think we are made to forget that by bringing Dany and her together in the beginning of season 8, and now that we are at the end this may come back up and be a way for Sansa to win it all (given that she is the only one playing the game like a baller).

Thank you for reading my GOT ramblings. I love your Podcast and I am with you for Watchman, Westworld, and going back to listen to American Gods.

Thanks,
