Alternate Ending… Or Explanation for the Ending We Got?

hi Dick and Gene…!

First, thanks to you guys for making this season so enjoyable. i have lots of friends… funny i felt i had to express that… but unfortunately, none that i can view GOT with and discus each episode with as passionately as i want to. Thus your podcast is my ‘go to” for frank, real discussion about each episode. Again, thank you for that…

I know you guys get lots of ‘tin foil” and i”ve heard plenty that was really absurd… but after listening to your deep dive on the last episode of the season, i think i actually know exactly why everything went like it did… hold on to your shit…

Hitler.

So, everyone in the world today knows Hitler was a monster. period, paragraph, end of sentence…

But, at some point, wasn’t this person simply a young idealistic human being that saw some problem in the world and wanted to do his best to fix it…? Look, please don’t think i am a nazi sympathizer, as i surely am not… however, I think what GRRM wanted to do was pull a bigger badder Walter White move with a person he spent several books making the audience love and care for. He spent so much time making us love Danny that all of the book readers are having an impossible time believing the transformation without a few thousand pages to read. I think the Double D”s had the same ‘impossible” time believing it when GRRM broke the news to them in the top secret “meeting” where he told them what was going to happen. Because the double D”s couldn’t ‘believe” that part of the story they couldn’t write anything that would make the audience ‘believe” it. Therefore it fell flat…. when the author doesn’t believe it, the audience doesn’t believe it. Not you guys, not the critics, not me.

it”s like if someone were to tell the double D”s, hey, you guys are great writers and a fan of the idea that nobody is black and white… So, write a story that shows Hitler as a young idealistic young man that really wants to make the world a better place and make us love him before he turns bad… it”s almost impossible. Because they don’t believe it.

Ultimately, if GRRM can finish the book series making us buy that Danny has truly turned evil, that will be a MAJOR accomplishment. I just think a few meetings between GRRM and the Double D”s didn’t convey the transformation idea as solidly as as if the D”s were to read the books they fell in love with like we did.

Also, don’t forget that if GRRM were to write it and it didn’t come across as believable to his editor he could scrap it and change the ending. The D”s had to respect what they were told, from the ‘creator”.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my point of view…. looking forward to the GOT spin off! Hope you guys will do a Pod on it.
