Don’t Ignore Angela

Hi there,

Greetings from the Philippines . Yes, there are fans even in this part of the world.

Without getting to much into crackpot theories , a point I haven’t seen given much attention to although taken at first as a throw away line, I’d like to revisit an important scene, in my opinion, that needs to be further explored.

A running theme in Westworld is the notion of self, and in particular self awareness.

We have seen many different reactions when the discovery of being a host is discovered. Such aspects of “personality” has been observed in a few reveals such as rebellion with Maeve, denial with Bernard and confusion and exploration of self with Delores.

The one character we are ignoring is Angela. Remember when we first met her as she spoke with William, she spoke to him as is she was fully aware of what Westworld is, who the hosts are and apparently well aware of who or what she is.

What happened to bury this self awareness and repurpose her role away from the welcome center and does she still have knowledge of self?

I feel that exploration of this character could reveal much more of this search for self and the consequences beyond Bernard, Delores and even Maeve’s failure to accomplish just that. She seemed at the time, in perfect acceptance of being a host and not desiring anything else beyond this self awareness.

We do know she was there at the beginning but was she a creation of Ford or Arnold?

Anyway, cheers and thanks for your great podcast. A pleasure to listen to and explore the depths of this great show.

Peace,

Thomas
