A Case for Gendry

Hey Guys,

I just came across your podcast in the last few weeks and I’m thankful for it. I’m trying to watch these last few episodes with a positive mindset and enjoy the ending – hearing your discussion helps.

Over the last few episodes, I’ve noticed a low key plotline starting to come together. I’m not sure it’s what I want for the ending of GoT, but I’m curious to see what they do with it (if anything).

Based on the following I think Gendry has a decent chance to end up on the throne.

In the S8 teaser, the one in the crypt with Jon, Sansa, and Ayra, there’s the icy mist and the floating feather. I think the icy mist represents the first three episodes of S8 (obviously) and the feather represents the last three. As we know Robert Baratheon used to leave feathers at Lyanna Stark”s crypt. I think the feather in the teaser could represent Robert and hint at the significance of his bastard Gendry. I can’t figure out why Gendry is still here so late in the game unless he has a purpose – why else spend valuable screen time on him? Dany gave herself credit for her “clever” move legitimizing him and making him Lord of Storm’s End in the S8E4 feast scene, but really she just cleared his one disqualification for the iron throne. Gendry is likable. After S8E5 he has the only salvageable love story left in the whole series. GoT plot lines are cyclical and this whole thing started with Robert Baratheon – a detail Tyrion just reminded us of in the S8E4 on the boat with Varys, “the last twenty years are because Robert loved someone who didn’t love him back” (paraphrasing). I think it’s a fair guess it ends with his line on the throne.

I love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for a great podcast.
