Hey!

Calling it now – THE NIGHT KING WILL COME BACK.

This was a really good episode but there is no way we had this buildup about the white walkers for 7 seasons for it to end like this. I really hope this was not the end of the White Walkers. This was way to underwhelming.

In the books we have these prophecies about Azor Ahai and “The Prince That Was Promised”.

Azor Ahai
Basically Azor Ahai is a character who has to make a great sacrifice to defeat the darkness of the Great Other. Azor Ahai creates a weapon by driving his sword into the living heart of his Wife, Nissa Nissa. Her soul was combined with the steel of his sword, creating the weapon known as Lightbringer.

“According to prophecy, our champion will be reborn to wake dragons from stone and reforge the great sword Lightbringer that defeated the darkness those thousands of years ago. If the old tales are true, a terrible weapon forged with a loving wife’s heart. Part of me thinks man was well rid of it, but great power requires great sacrifice. That much at least the Lord of Light is clear on.” – Thoros of Myr

“There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him.” – No fking clue

“The Prince That Was Promised”
Melisandre has also been talking about how Stannis was “The Prince That Was Promised”. After Stannis dies she thinks Jon Snow is the chosen one. I think it was in season 7 Melisandre told us that this prophecy was mistranslated, its supposed to be “The Prince or Princess That Was Promised”. I dont think the showrunner would bother clarifying things like this if they did not matter in the show.

“The Lord let you come back for a reason. Stannis was not the Prince Who Was Promised, but someone has to be.” – Melisandre to Jon Snow

Jenny of Oldstones (who was introduced last episode via the song Podrick sang) made the prophecy that the prince (or princess) that was promised would be born from the line of the Mad King. We now know that both Jon and Daenerys was born from the line of the Mad King.

TLDR: Both the books and the series has been talking about Azor Ahai and “The Prince or Princess That Was Promised” who has to make a great sacrifice to beat the others.

PS: I Understand that this is too much to put into your podcast. But hopefully you found some of this interesting.

Best Regards
