Dragon Riders

Hi there!

Love the pod! I admittedly am not as detailed or knowledgeable as some of your other listeners, but I do have a question about the Night King riding icy Viserion. As we know (or have been led to believe), not just anyone can ride a dragon. Does this indicate that the Night King has Targaryen roots, or is the mysticism surrounding the dragon eliminated when he is turned by the Night King? Also, we were definitely told the meaning behind the dragons’ names for a reason. Daeneyrs rides Drogon, named for the man who made her a queen in the first place (or at least helped her to claim that power); I have a feeling with last night’s “revelation” that perhaps Jon is destined to ride Rhaegal, the dragon named for his father, begging the question about a potential connection between the Night King and Viserys or his lineage. It certainly seemed random when Viserys was shot down (although clearly nothing is random in this world), but I do wonder if Rhaegal or Drogon could have achieved the same purpose.

On a different (but still dragon-related note), I loved Daeneyrs’s entrance to the dragon pit for a huge reason–showing Cersei that her dragon arrow did not permanently damage Drogon. It had to take some nerve for Daeneyrs to ride Drogon right into the place where the Scorpion was created/housed. Such a power move!

Can’t believe we are so far away from new eps. Time to do some re-watching and reading!
