True Detective Episode 4 Review “The Hour and The Day”

“True Detective” skipped its usual Episode 4 bloodbath this season and instead gave us a buffet of strong dialog and revelations. Find out what’s different about the writing on “The Hour and The Day,” and hear Dick Ebert sing twice in the same podcast.

Listener mail discusses how “True Detective” is handling race, the truth behind the West Memphis Three, and the accuracy of how evidence is handled on screen. And the tin foil comes out as listeners ask whether Wayne Hays might be “doinking” Lucy Purcell in the bushes or Julie Purcell might actually be the documentarian meeting with Wayne.

Finally, stick around until the end of the podcast for a voicemail that just might explain the entire season and pin Julie’s abduction on a surprise suspect.

Storyline for “The Hour and The Day”:
Episode 4: Hays and West see a possible connection between the local church and the Purcell crimes; as the detectives search for one suspect and round up another for interrogation, Woodard is targeted by a vigilante group.

Anyone else notice that Detective Hays’ son acts suspiciously at the police station when his dad asks if he has seen the director girl from the documentary. Later in the episode Hays clearly notices the two wine glasses at the directors hotel when he visits only to have her say she was alone when he asks her if he was interrupting something. My guess is that Hays’ son is cheating on his wife with the her which will play a part later in the story although I have no idea how it will add to the story. Anyone else catch this?
