Game Of Thrones

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hey guys,

I really enjoy the podcast and listening to the last several episodes make a recent 7 hour road trip fly by.

Who knows, maybe this will be answered on tonight’s episode but where did the theory of Tyrion flying on a dragon, or that he is part Targaryon come from? Based on all the information presented over the last 6+ seasons there is no information to suggest that he is anything other than a 100%, pure blooded Lannister. Jon Snow’s origins were always a known unknown until last season, but Tyrion’s origins are explicitly stated. His mother died giving birth to him, and Tywin would have never raised him or gone to war for him if he wasn’t a Lannister, even the lowest of the Lannisters. I think the theory of Bran worgging one of the dragons is likely and follows what the former three eyed raven originally told Bran that he wouldn’t walk again but he would fly.

In talking about sad or emotional character deaths, where was any mention of Ser Barriston Selmy, aka Barriston the Bold? He was a lesser character but he died saving Grey Worm and though not innocent he was portrayed as pure and honest. He was definitely one of my favorites, up there with Bronn.

Thanks for show and keep doing what you’re doing.

After seeing how the writers put bow ties on most of the major characters, I started wondering about the fates of the side characters, and then it hit me – Wait… what happened to Elaria Sand?? Is she still in the dungeons alive in King’s Landing? Wasn’t Cersei keeping her alive intentionally so that she would watch her daughter rot along side her? If Elaria is still alive, the only people who knew she was there are most likely dead or have left Kings Landing. Anyway, love the podcast!

Has anyone noticed that varys’ scroll prior to meeting with his “supper assasin” was not about jon’s Lineage and right to the iron throne. It was about Eddard being appointed by king Robert, which would be referring to the stark lineage. Not Jon, but Sansa. Wasn’t Varys hedging his bet. Try first to convince Jon to rule, but also send out the message that Sansa is also the rightful heir according to the last rightful king. Rallying support for her as a final effort prior to his impending death.

    • Gene Lyons says:

Could be. What if Varys’ logic is: Tyrion’s married to Sansa. Baratheons are gone. Lannister and Stark should have the throne. Or perhaps a Gendry-Sansa power couple?

I’m new to podcasts. I love yours. After watching the last episode and especially the fourth episode I think that Danny may be sacrificing herself for John. Hear me out. She knows that the people love him. She knows that he is not capable of making the hard decision to destroy the red keep. She is destroying it knowing that it will give her a bad image but that he can claim the throne in her stead. I believe that she is paving the way for him to become the ruler of the seven kingdoms.

  4. Mary says:

Isn’t is possible that the reason Dany destroyed everyone is because (as she said) she knew the people of Kings Landing would be loyal to whomever was sitting on the throne and not to her specifically. She needed everyone gone because they are potentially against her in the future. If there was any possibility Jon would take the throne, these people would be her enemy. Couldn’t it be as simple as that? These were not her people, so these people needed to die.

  5. Nicole Henry says:

Isn’t it ironic that , Jaime seemingly hurts Brianne intentionally to protect her and keep her from following him to Kings landing. Tyrion did the same thing with Shay and then BAM, he ended up killing his father ( Could this be a callback and a clue that Jaime is headed down the same path as his brother ? )

Also , can we entertain the theory that Tyrion is a secret agent for Cerci. We know that he does consider himself responsible for the death of Marcella and Tomon after her murdered Tywin ( leaving the Lannister’s Vulnerable) But what If the internet has it right this time lol , what if he believes there is a baby and he wants to make things right between him and his sister?

    HERE ME OUT…..

During the war of the dead , Sansa tells him that the most honorable thing they could do is look the truth in the face , but did you happen to notice the look on his face when she said that ?
He appeared to look guiltily in my opinion and maybe this is a stretch but …….it almost looked like he didn’t want to look Sansa in the face because he knows that his true intentions ARE NOT honorable or in favor of the Stark’s / Danny,
Please go back and watch that scene.

I think we all can agree that something is up with Tyrion and Perhaps he is the most clever person in the world.

    • Gene Lyons says:

We’re with you on this one and pegged Tyrion as one of the prime suspects if Cersei has a spy in Dany’s camp.

  6. Susan Kaczmarek says:

Why would Dany legitimize Gendry? Now he has a better claim to the throne than any of them. He may not want it now but in say 10 or 15 years he could raise an army and stage a coup. That was just stupidity on her part.

    • Gene Lyons says:

The best part is when she leans over during the feast and proclaims that she can play the Game, too. What Dany sees as a master stroke could be her undoing if House Baratheon presses its claim.

I should really be saving this for after the deep dive, but I’m hoping you guys would discussing that the “saga” of the Night Kind and the White Walkers not being completely concluded after episode 3.

I keep seeing folks comment on how unnecessary the threat seemed now that the battle against the dead has been won, and that the conclusion of Game of Thrones will be focused on unseating Cersei from the throne. I do believe that is what we’re lead to believe – but there are so many questions left regarding the Azor Ahai prophecy, the symbols left by the Night King, the Lord of Light and the struggle between the Three Eyed Raven. I don’t think any of that is really resolved just by his death.

I don’t foresee another attack by the White Walkers – I do believe the imminent physical threat has been concluded. Do you think the battle for the throne will be resolved with just strategic tactics and battles, some peppered betrayals and character deaths, or do you think these expectations are a bait and switch for some fantasy lore coming into play to subvert expectations of just guessing “who will end up on the throne?” .

I’m expecting a conclusion that won’t just be another chapter of Westeros’ history, but rather drastically reforms it. I can’t speculate on what that would entail (as I’m not creative enough to be a fantasy writer), but I’d love to hear the shat on TV crew discuss the possibility that the Night King still has a very real, threatening impact on these last few episodes.

Maybe I’m just in the denial stage (I’m actually pretty content with the battle of Winterfell so it’s not like I’m struggling to come to terms with it), but it seems like there are so many pieces of something larger that’s been alluded to throughout this show. There are 3 episodes left and there’s no way it’s just regrouping and more war councils to usurp the throne.

Or maybe I’m looking too deeply into this, and the Night King was really just a mindless byproduct of the war between the children of the forest and the first men and was nothing more than a boogeyman pawn who was introduced to the plot as a means to unite the houses; but I trust GRRM and the showrunners too much to believe that.

  8. Nicole Henry says:

I know that the small council is over for season 8 episode 2 but a major light bulb went off in my head when I re-watched the episode. Game of thrones is infamous for intentionally steering us away from the answers that are right in our face .

Danny mentions to Sansa that John manipulates her but she also says ,
“ all my life , I’ve only known ONE goal . The iron throne.”

Sure , one could say , hey the dead is coming , why are we discussing this and why is Sansa bringing this up NOW ?
But this may be our bittersweet ending we were promised.

We defeat the dead and kill the night king but once that’s done , SHIT HITS THE FAN !

Although houses are putting their differences aside for the battle of the dead, no one can ignore the massive elephant in the room . WHO SITS ON THE THRONE AT THE END ?

    Sansa says to Danny ,
    “ What happens afterwards?
    1. We DEFEAT THE DEAD
    2. WE DESTROY CERCI
What happens then , what about the north ? “

Theon even comes back and says he wishes to fight for winterfeld , BUT what if he means fighting for the Starks and their claim to the throne ?

The writers even make sure that Danny acknowledges that Tyrion and his intelligence is needed when all this is said and done .

It’s no coincidence that tensions are starting to build before the battle of the dead.

I think they will in fact defeat the dead like they did before but the real battle will be between ALL the houses , staying true to its name ,
    “ Game of thrones “

Our favorite characters will betray and kill each other in the end which is way more heartbreaking that being killed by white walkers. The knight king is only half lof the bigger picture here.

Are we bracing ourselves for the wrong battle ?

I’d love to hear your thoughts .

    • Gene Lyons says:

With three episodes left, we definitely have room for betrayal. But I think the Night King’s purpose, and the purpose of the Battle of Winterfell, was to unite those who lived through it. When loyalties are strained and priorities conflict, I think the characters will look back on how they united to defeat the Night King. Their connections are tempered by the fire of this horrific night.
