George R.R. Martin Promised He’d Finish The Books First

Hey all,

This is my first time writing into the podcast. Love the pod, I listen to Westworld as well and was almost more excited to listen to you guys then watch the show. Anyway, I just wanted to touch on the writing of the past few seasons of GOT. It’s not hard to see that the writing is not as tight in the late seasons, from Jamie sinking in the water only to pop up halfway down river the next episode, or the unsullied getting stuck at Casterly rock only to show up at king’s landing as if nothing happened to us season seemingly ignoring previous story arcs. However, I don’t feel like the double Ds are totally to blame but rather George R.R. Martin and our own desires. George R.R. Martin promised the show writers he would finish the books before the show and that never happened. So the double Ds went from adopting a well written, fully coherent book to coming up with a plot and filling in all the details on there own, something they were not expecting, and possibly even I’ll-equipped for. Also, our own desires for the show may have swayed them to do things that didn’t make sense. The only plot reason for Clegane bowl was because the hound hated the mountain, not something I would say is very important to the overall story, but they forced it into the show because we wanted it, and wouldn’t ya know it felt forced. Another example is Jamie in these past two episodes. He survived the Battle for Winterfell only because we thought he was going to kill Cersei (I know there was the prophecy, and that’s a whole other topic). He literally added nothing to the last couple episodes and was there only because we expected a reunion. Anyway just wanted to get my thoughts in before the small council, thanks for listening,
