GOT – Arya A Faceless Man?

Hey guys,

One other thought for this week. If you recall back in season 7 episode 5 I believe, Arya sneaks up on Sansa who is snooping around in Arya”s room and confronts Sansa after Sansa discovers Arya faces. After Arya reveals to Sansa how she became a Faceless man, Arya does a complexing thing by handing Sansa the knife and walking out of the room. Because I have a sister who I have on/off fought with throughout my adolescent years, I thought I knew what was happening at the end of the scene, and now that the series is over, I feel assured in my assumption. When I rewatched the episode for the first time, I noticed Sansa”s eyes dart down to the pile of faces and then back to Arya as she realizes what her sister wants her to do. I believe that Arya hands her the knife to cut up the faces because she no longer wants to partake in the magic that is the Faceless Men. Arya perhaps is feeling the lure of the power of being a Faceless man and is asking Sansa to sort of protect her from this magic so that she can fulfill her own destiny that she CHOOSES for herself. The Faceless Man gig would be her fulfilling her role in the universe as a Faceless man, and she doesn’t want to fill any role other than the one she creates for herself. If I’m correct, this would be a nice touch to help explain the sudden turn around of the Arya/Sansa relationship seen in the season finale of season 7, and also explains somewhat Arya”s choice to abandon Westeros in search of a new land at the end of 806.

Thanks, guys. Can’t wait for this week”s Small Council.

Best,
Courtney K.
