GOT Episode 5- Small Council

Hey Guys,

Please read my letter, it makes me feel important, if only for a fleeting moment.

My girlfriend hates fantasy, especially anything in the vain of lord of the rings. But I have been able to slowly turn her on to GOT this season. At first, she would just play on her phone while I sat wide-eyed leaning into the TV. During episode five she turned to me and said, “okay, this show got me, this is some of the best editing I have ever seen in my life.” She’s a film studies graduate and a major film buff, but like I said she’s just never had a taste for fantasy, but she couldn’t deny that what she was seeing was a true masterpiece of film making. The next day she remarked on how upset the internet was about the episode. She told me she thought it made sense to her. Danny had lost the most important people she had. It seemed like they were building up to it the entire season, she exclaimed.

I asked her what she thought of Cerci and how the writers wanted us to feel sorry for her. “She was about to die a violent horrible death! who wouldn’t act like that? What did they want Cerci to raise her fist and scream DAMN YOU DRAGON QUEEN, I’LL SEE YOU IN HELL!! yeah, that would have been believable.” Okay, but what about Drogon being able to dodge all those arrows? “Has that Dragon ever been hit in combat before, he seems to be the strongest.”

Okay, Okay… but what about burning all those innocent civilians, after they surrendered. “That crazy Queen chick did not surrender, I dunno who rang those bells but she didn’t give the order. And it was bad burning all those people, but I believe I recall a certain country during a certain war dropping an atomic bomb, excuse me, two atomic bombs on two different civilian populations.” She exclaimed. And I find myself agreeing with her.

I just wanted to share an opinion from someone who hasn’t been following the show from episode 1 and isn’t a die-hard fan. I also think it’s important for us to take a step back and put our feelings about the story aside, just to appreciate all the amazing work that goes into making this show possible. The actors, the costumes, the set design, the sound, the lighting, the editing. All of it is on a level no other show, currently or in history, can compete with.

Thanks, guys, love the show
