GOT Final Episode

Hey,

First-time listener, first-time writer here. I was looking for a podcast to make sense of what the f was going on this season and found yours after episode 4 made me wish I’d been listening for 8 years.

My choice for rewriting the ending would be this: someone reasonable like Tyrion or Davos convinces Daenerys that she has to abdicate the throne to Jon/Aegon. Basically, they make two points: 1. You’re like all the rest, you talk of breaking the wheel, but you’re just another version of it according to the crispy populace of Kings landing. And 2. How did you expect to make any real change to the system when you have no hope of leaving any legacy behind to carry on after you’re gone? You can’t have kids, so who rules when you’re dead? The unsullied ain’t having any kids, which leaves… Drogon? The Dothraki? If only… if ONLY you had a ready-made heir to the throne who you know to be a just and compassionate person who shares your dream of a better world. And who happens to be a Targaryen (hey, bonus: your house continues). And all you have to do is put aside your own personal desires to rule and retire to Pike or Valyria or somewhere else. This would have given Dany a chance for redemption after her recent fiery decisions and shown that she was good in the end. Oh, and it means that the whole big Jon is Aegon secret, which they’ve been playing for 7 seasons would actually turn out to be important. And it would make sense, because who’s going to fuck with Jon (who’s terrible at the game of thrones) when Dany (and the north) has his back?

Failing that, I would rewrite episode 5 to have Drogon burn Euron on the first swoop. No Euron/Jamie “whoa, what are YOU doing here” bullshit fight.

Thanks for helping make sense of a rollercoaster season,

Mark B
