Hey Guys,

Wells it’s over and as I sit and try to comprehend everything that happened, I realize that there were no character arcs…they were all character circles. Most of the characters stayed true to who they were at the beginning of the show:

Sansa –> wanted to be a queen one day…she went through a shit ton but she got her teenage wish in the end. She is obviously going to be a better leader than she would have been without her development, but she is still that little girl who wanted to be a queen.

Jon –> Still an outcast who will do everything in his power to do what is right and moral, even by killing “his queen.” He was always a simple character and many called him weak and boring but he was true to his original character and overcame his stigma against all the odds. He even carried out his last death sentence of Dany with his own hand just as Ned taught him in season one. His Stark blood would not allow him to take what he did not believe was his to take (the iron throne), just as Ned could not take the throne until Joffery came of age at dying Robert’s last wish. He ends up beyond the Wall where he was always most comfortable and where it did not matter what title he was given…bastard, turncloak, Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, King of the North, the prince that was promised…

Dany –> The naive child who thinks she is the rightful heir to the iron throne; Dany has had a hard-knock life and she truly believed that everything in that life was pushing her towards the iron throne. But maybe the world was screaming at her to accept her life as it was and forget Westeros. She didn’t and every step of the way was a struggle/battle. If she would have read the signs and premonitions as what they were, signs that it wasn’t her throne to take, she would have not succumbed to her naivety and tragic life. She wasn’t mad, she was power driven by stories from her stupid brother and willing to do whatever to rule Westeros and eventually the world.

Bran –> the kid who likes a good story, especially the scary ones. I think Bran was the least developed in the series because the concept of the three-eyed raven or warging does not make sense in our world. But he started as a kid who was curious and attempted to climb to new heights and now his curiosity and willingness to climb to new heights lead him to the molten throne.

Arya –> still the person who wants a good adventure: Arya was not going to fit any mold, not a Stark, not a lady, not a world-class assassin…she was always poised to make her own road. She joins other characters’ paths along the way, but it is her path and her path is the only one she follows in the end.

Jamie –> never changed; still, the man who would do anything for his sister; we should have known he was not going to redeem himself

Theon –> we met him as a cocky adopted member of the Stark family, he died thinking he could kill the Night King and protecting the Stark family home; He was never truly Iron Born; he was never meant to be a great lord; he was always going to be the child taken away from his family and cared for and loved by his enemies, who he would end up fighting for just like a true prodigal son.

Tyrion –> Still the smartest man in the room

On a side note to your comments in the Instacast, I think you hit the nail right on the head when you said Tyrion was making such bad decisions because he was blinded by his love for Dany. He even admits it to Jon while trying to convince Jon to assassinate Dany…”Love is the death of duty.” Tyrion’s duty was to be the rational hand of the queen and his love did not allow him to make the best decisions. When she died, he was able to again make the right decision. Jon counters with Maester Aemon’s quote “Duty is the death of love,” which we know is the path Jon took in killing Dany.

Going to miss the show and your podcast but looking forward to the next watch.
