The season should have been drawn out with Dany having a chance to sit on the throne but then one of Varys’ letters gets to the North and we see their reaction to Jon being a Targaryen as they call for him on the throne. Dany then needs to decide whether she wants to obliterate the north and decides she must retain power. This is all happening while Tyrion is on trial, Jon is ready to sacrifice himself to save the north and accepts to be Tyrion’s champion against Drogon. Dany pleads with Jon not to do it because she must burn the north anyway. That’s when Jon kills her understanding that for the pack to survive “we can’t squabble amongst ourselves ” -Ned Stark.
