Haven’t had the opportunity to listen to the instacast yet, so my apologies if some of these observations have already been made. WOW. What an episode! I honestly could stand for a full body massage to release the tension I held in every muscle in my body which began after seeing the Dothraki’s fire swords being snuffed out within seconds, and lasted all the way to the very end of the episode. My husband and I were left speechless for a good 10 minutes after the credits rolled, but overall we were satisfied. One glance at Reddit afterwards showed that we might be in the minority. Anticlimactic. Predictable. Unimaginative. Cop out. Some of the many ways I have read this episode being described. I’ve got to say, I couldn’t disagree more. In fact, I hope this becomes one of those episodes that people appreciate more (or even at all) after we find out what it’s all leading up to.
The main message I got from this episode is that the army of the dead was NEVER man’s worst enemy. Yes, we were being built up for this entire series that the army of the dead would be THE threat to beat, but we have also witnessed twist after turn, and now I believe that we have experienced yet another. This is the episode where we realize that the army of the dead is no match (although they were VERY close) to humanity, itself. The very reason the NK was created was to rid the world of humans and the horrors they carry out, but he was defeated, and so the wheel continues… the game continues. So many small things have happened throughout the series that lead to this moment (i.e. the voyage of the dagger from one character to the next, and what the purpose of the dagger was meant for when we, the viewers, first saw it, to what it wound up being used for), so many characters played a major role in making it happen (MUCH better than Jon or Dany defeating NK on their own- *THAT* would have been anticlimactic, unimaginative, and boring). Most importantly: WE HAVE 3 LONG EPISODES LEFT! Clearly there’s a lot more that is going to go down, and I’m willing to bet it won’t be all kittens and rainbows.
Keep up the great work guys!
