GOT S8 Ep1 Dragon Date

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Big D, Gene,

First of all, I want to say how much I enjoy the podcast. Every last episode of this show is one to savor and watching each multiple times and listening to each of your podcasts through the week really makes the fun last. I think the thing I enjoy the most, as a female listener, as (beyond the smart and savvy analysis and thoughtful theories, of course) is the heart you all bring to your insights. You seem like genuinely good guys – I like faux “hanging-out” with you in my car on long commutes and listening to you talk.

HOWEVER. You got something wrong, IMO, this time, in your disdain for the dragon date. I have a little insight for you. As a girl who grew up riding horses, (still do as an adult) I have always identified with Dany and her dragons. Horse crazy, dragon crazy, not too different. lol. So here are a few things to know.

1. It’s simultaneously something sacred you keep for yourself, and something you want to share but ONLY with the right person. Same for Danaerys. So I really got her gleeful smile when finally, this thing that is the most important to her in the world, was something she could truly share with someone she is starting to love. My now husband begged to go to the barn to meet my horse early in our relationship, I only took him out there once I was sure.

2. Jon wasn’t floundering the whole time. There’s a moment where he gets the hang of it, his bloodline must kick in, and he steers Rhaegon – You can clock it because right after he turns and dips away from Dany, she gets a smile on her face that shows she’s surprised and impressed, then her competitive side kicks in – like “Oh, really?! Game on!” And she turns and descends after him.

3. The animals DO get jealous. My horse tried to run over my husband the first time he met him. So that look Drogon shot Jon? 100% landed for all the horse girls who love Game of Thrones.

So – that’s all. Just speaking up for horse girls everywhere who have taken a special someone for a ride. I recognized her look of glee. And her scaly steed’s jealousy. ha. Just because you’ve seen it in Disney movies doesn’t mean it doesn’t actually happen. 😉

Keep up the great podcasting, seriously, I refer you to all my GOT fan friends. Kristie K
