Honor Ruins a Scheme

Gents,

Ned Stark showed what happens to honorable men in Kings Landing, so when Jon couldn’t tell a lie I think you could hear the collective palm to face across the country. I appreciated that Jon was aware of his mistake, and I also appreciated that others told him the same. However, do you think it will change the dynamic in future meetings where Dany and company maybe hold things back from Mr. Integrity King of the North? What about when it comes out that he is really the rightful heir to the throne? Who will be the first to murmur, “we are doomed” into his or her cup of wine?

With all that said, imagine what would have happened if Brienne of Tarth had remained at Winterfell? She has an unshakable honor much like Jon, and would likely have made a huge scene and ruined any show Sansa was trying to create for Littlefinger, because honor would have bound Brienne to interrupt and make a hasty speech about family and honor. Brienne was clearly a liability so I think Sansa artfully sent her away to keep honor out of the scheme so that she could focus on deception. It shows Sansa’s growth and that she had been laying this trap for a long time if she was setting this up so far in advance. It also proves the point that if you need to deceive someone, don’t invite Jon Snow or Brienne of Tarth, if it can be avoided.

Great Episode/Season!
