Is Ford Using Avatars Throughout The Park?

Hi guys,
I’m feeling so nostalgic right now. Congrats on making it to the top of the iTunes charts. You guys deserve all the praise and more. So happy Westworld is back to feed my 3-a-week Shat addiction.
I was physically shaking when I was watching the “previously on” segment and then nearly on the verge of tears during the title sequence. Then about 10 minutes in, I started getting deflated. It’s not that I didn’t like it, but the anticipation had built up my expectations. Part of it was that the last few weeks in the lead up contained loads of hidden easter eggs so I thought the first episode would be full of stuff to find, but instead it felt too easy.
Actually, it felt like network execs gave the showrunners a bunch of notes on how the show needs to be simplified to reach a wider audience. The DNA reveal, for example. There have been clues since the beginning of season 1, but I still didn’t expect them to just give it away so easily. Maybe there’s a deeper mystery. The other issue that I had was that they seemed to up the gore factor this season. I felt like the scene on the beach was a bit too long, both the executions of Rebus et al. and the subsequent brain surgery. Then the MIB shootout also felt a bit extra.
OK, with that out of the way…
• Timeline
We have been told this season that we are looking at a 2-week timeframe from the massacre to when Bernard wakes up on the beach. Ghost nation dude was killed by Dolores about 3 days following the massacre (11 days, 9 hours before the beach scene). So it seems that all of the scenes with MIB, Charlotte/Bernard, Dolores/Teddy, Maeve/Sizemore that we see are in those first 3 days after the massacre.
The timing of the scene with Bernard/Dolores at the very beginning is still questionable. It almost feels like this has all happened before. He’s talking about a dream he had about waking up on the beach, implying that this is in the future as Host dreams are memories. Which would mean that everything turns out just fine and they carry on after having both been reset. Which, in turn, means that they are still having private conversations as Dolores apparently did with Arnold.
Could this be in the past? Has this all happened before?
• Bernard’s First Aid Bag
Same bag is on the table in the trailer in front of MIB from the S2 trailer, so presumably someone is there to help treat his arm, but who? It’s likely Bernard, as MIB is explaining the bigger purpose in the park.

If you remember, in the season 1 finale, there was a strange glance exchanged between Bernard and MIB. It was a “where have I seen you before” look.
• Young Robert host
Creepy little Robert has the same knack of appearing in the park out of thin air and Dr. Ford does. He speaks with his own voice, with keeps morphing into Ford’s voice. This supports a theory of mine about Angela. Last season, it felt like there were times that Angela was actually just speaking for Ford, like an avatar. The scene in particular I’m thinking of is in episode 9, where Teddy is talking about his memories of Wyatt and she tells him to remember again, and suddenly it’s totally different.
Watch the scene with her and William in episode 2 again, but this time imagine it’s Ford. Trippy.

• Control room
Why was there a bear in there? Could it symbolize hibernation? That is, everyone isn’t really dead, it just looks that way. ??
In this episode we have had a dead tiger and a dead bear. We need a lion in the next episode to round out the Wizard of Oz references.
Someone on Reddit had said ages ago that Sizemore peeing on the map was foreshadowing a great flood… in fact, I think one of your listeners also said that Teddy Flood was foreshadowing the same thing. And yes, that was Teddy they showed floating in the water. I’m going to have to dig through your telegraph archives, because that was a fuckin brilliant call!
• MIB Gear
So convenient that MIB’s horse and full kit were all left conveniently for him. Seems like someone is watching and perhaps there’s not as much chaos as we are led to believe.
I hope that there was an element of misdirection in this episode and the true story will begin from episode 2.
Last season I was so convinced that William=MIB was a thing, that I was adamant MIB could not be a host. I now think I was wrong. Watching season 1 again, I believe that William is a host that Ford planted IRL to take over Delos and keep the money rolling in.
His wife, Juliet, had been to the park before the first time we meet William. That means that Ford knows everything he needed to about her. I wouldn’t put it past Ford to be able to create her perfect partner. The whole baby-oriented title sequence gives me hope that the question of whether William could have created a child can be answered. Finally, the ageing could have been managed by William’s yearly park visits.
However, to make it work he would have to have a grease-man… enter Logan.

Perhaps Logan wanted the money, but not the responsibility or pressure of working for his dad.

More on this on my blog later this week. I know this one is going to generate some hate. Bring it.
Damn, it’s good to be back! Keep up the awesome work, chaps.
Love from London.

Iiiiiinteresting. Things definitely do feel a bit more spelled out this season. If anyone call pull off mass-market appeal without sacrificing quality (at least in the first few seasons), it’s HBO.
