Lightbringer

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hey guys,

Love the cast, been listening since Westworld but let me get right into it. With the recent reveal that Jon Snow is no longer a bastard (Rhaegar was wed to Lyanna), and the theory that Danny is going to die at or north of the wall (completing the visions from the house of the undying; seeing Drogo again), I believe it’s “safe” to assume that we can call Jon the prince that was promised. That said, hopefully the show will also bring in lightbringer. As it stands, I think we have two options for lightbringer candidates; Beric Dondarrion’s flaming sword and Longclaw.

If we are to believe it will be Beric’s sword, then we have to assume he will die north of the wall, and pass off the sword to Jon in some fashion. I would theorize that Beric dies in order to save Jon, and that Longclaw gets lost, broken, or is out of range and Jon picks up Beric’s sword, which would ignite when Jon picks it up.

The other option (Longclaw) brings up a bit of a deeper theory, that I have yet to see on the interwebs. Again, I think it’s safe to assume that the walkers are going to breach the wall and if we can agree on that, then there is a possibility that characters that have died on the show get reanimated as wights. In the Legend of Lightbringer, it reads:”The third time, with a heavy heart, for he knew beforehand what he must do to finish the blade, he worked for a hundred days and nights until it was finished. This time, he called for his wife, Nissa Nissa, and asked her to bare her breast. He drove his sword into her living heart, her soul combining with the steel of the sword, creating Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes”. Now… what if Ygritte gets reanimated and Jon kills her with Longclaw, only to have it catch fire when he pulls it out of her. IMO it’s a bit of a stretch, but what a fantastic scene that would be.

Anyways, just my $0.02. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Regards,

Adam Mark
