I’m not buying the Roland being closeted theory and that being the reason he and Wayne stop speaking to each other.

My take is Roland and Wayne had their falling out because in the 1990 timeline Wayne uncovers the fact that Roland was involved in the conspiracy to pin the case in Woodard back in 1980. Roland knew about the planted bag and chose to advance his career over getting to the truth. Wayne doesn’t remember this in the 2015 timeline.

Ultimately I think Roland will redeem himself in some way by the end of the season.
