The Line Of Succession For the Iron Throne

Hey Guys,

There is one point that I have not seen discussed much and I think it may serve a much bigger purpose than what it appeared. The line of succession for the Iron Throne is dependent on which monarch you choose to follow succession on. The Jon (Aegon)/Danaerys claim is based on the mad kings line of succession but for much of the show we had Robert Baratheon’s heirs all trying to stake their claim. With Danaerys legitimizing Gendry he is the true heir to the Iron Throne when following Robert’s line of succession. I can definitely see a scenario where Danaerys is killed and Jon and Gendry are left to figure it out. As we know Jon has never wanted this and I’d find it completely plausible for him to give Gendry a heartfelt speech about him being the rightful ruler “YOU are the legitimate son of King Robert Baratheon and the true ruler of the 7 kingdoms etc. etc.”. I realize it seems far fetched but I refuse to believe that scene happened just so Gendry could get turned down by Arya. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank You,
Vin G

I like your reasoning regarding the line of succession. It comes down to whether you accept the Targaryen or the Baratheon claim. If Dany dies, Jon will likely not want it, which leaves Gendry. As a new lord, he wants a lady, but Arya doesn’t want to be a lady. On the other hand, Sansa is very much the lady. I still cling to Robert’s words in the first episode, “I have a son, you have a daughter..”.
