The New Small Counsel

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hey Guys,

I want to first congratulate you for putting together such a hilarious, entertaining and intelligent podcast about the greatest show ever created. I have told everyone I know who is into GOT to subscribe to your podcasts. I actually won 140 dollars in my deathpool and possibly I owe it to some of your theories. So thank you. While my prediction of dany killing Jon snow and Arya subsequently killing dany did not come true, I am quite satisfied with the outcome.

Dany accomplishes her goal of breaking the wheel but paid a price for it. I really see King Bran the broken not only as possibly a symbol of ” breaking the wheel” since he is a cripple, but also as a figurehead ruler and someone who has thousands of years of history that he can access to help the new council not have history keep repeating itself. I see Tyrion as evidenced by the final scene of the new counsel as the main power/decision maker. In this small group, there is a collection of underdogs more reminiscent of a group of traveling carnies ( carnival actors) then heads of all the noble houses of Westeros. We have an imp leading a mercenary , a freakishly tall woman , a smart but cowardly overweight chump, a bastard blacksmith, and a smuggler who is missing some of his fingers as the main power players in the new Kings landing or what is left of it. None of them have children that we are aware of or even in relationships with the exception of samwell and gilly. They tend to be singular folks. Maybe the whole love ends with duty, duty ends with love thing. They are less corruptible because most of these individuals are not driven by power and then maybe are less likely to be blinded by love ? Just a thought

I also think the iron throne reminded me a lot of the Ring in the lord of the ring trilogy. Whoever possessed it became more and more obsessed and turned from good to evil. Dany sounded the most unhinged when she was telling Jon snow before he stabbed her about her childhood dreams of the throne. I think it was the symbol for corruption of power and very fitting that Drogon understood that it really was not Jon snow that killed his mom but the actual quest for the throne. .. again a lot like the “precious” Ring and Golom . This is why he chose to scorch the thrones instead of Jon.

Other random thoughts I am having less than a day after viewing the finale are these; The more I think about the ending , the more I like it. I was wondering how they were going to tie up House Arryn , House Martell, House Greyjoy. Jon snow had to have a consequence. And yes maybe executing him would have been more satisfying for fans but we have to remember he already died once. He has always been a bit of a Christ figure , and I think sending him out to the free folk was an appropriate punishment. Maybe he will go on to be more of a missionary of sorts and share his experiences with the free folk and whoever else is still north of the wall. Maybe he was resurrected from the dead to kill dany and not the night king because she was the symbol for the power of evil.

Also, what ending for Bran would have been a crowd favorite ? I knew he was going to be the wild card in the last episode. I truly had no idea what was role he was going to play and I like that they chose possibly the least corruptible person to be their leader.

Anyway I will be in mourning starting next week when your podcast ends. Love love love what you guys have done with this. I look forward to hearing what you think about west world season 3 ( but quite frankly west world is pushing my limits of mental capacity ). I would only watch it to hear your podcast.

Sincerely, and gratefully,

Laurel from Chicagoland
