The Night King
You know me as Crash_86 on Twitter. You touched on something in the Deep Dive that I’ve been telling people for months.
Here goes.
My hunch is that all of the rules Jon thinks he knows about White Walkers (dragonglass, Valyrian steel, etc.) won’t work on the Night King. He’s got different magic in him because he wasn’t created by other White Walkers. He was created by the Children of the Forest … so the rules don’t apply to him. While those items may affect him to some degree, I don’t think they’ll be quite as lethal as they are to Walkers.
In my opinion, that makes Bran the key to defeating him (if he’s to be defeated). Bran spent time with the Children before he became the Three Eyed Raven, and is acutely tuned to them as the Three Eyed Raven. Bran is the only one who’s with the living who can come close to understanding what it took to create the Night King. And as we saw in Season 7, the Night King is quite aware of Bran and can feel (for lack of a better word) when Bran is worging out.
Time will tell if this is a correct assumption, or a case of me having my tinfoil wound too tightly.
Keep up the great work! I know it’s a labor of love and you don’t hear it enough, but we out here in podcast land appreciate everything you guys do.
