The White-Walker Narrative Is Not Over

Hi guys, love the pod!

Tried emailing in last week but I don’t think I did so early enough, so this week I am sending my thoughts in early. I for one, I’m glad we offed the night king in episode 3 , as my favorite part of the show have been the less magical elements, the intra-human struggle. I have a couple of thoughts on on the episode.

There’s been a lot of disappointment around the lack of fulfillment the Azor Ahai prophecy. GoT has established that the lore is is not exact, they have been passed down for generations, a game of telefone if you will. And when prophecies have been fulfilled, it has not followed the expected route so the Azor Ahai shouldn’t be any different. Maybe there is a long night coming, but that long night is not what we expect, it is not the white walkers, but it will be self inflicted. It will be caused by humanity’s refusal to put the collective good above the individual, a refusal to compromise, sorta like climate change.

Speaking of, don’t think this is the end of white walker narrative. When you look at the official season 8 cast list there are some new named characters. One of them is Willa who is described as “a wildling who resides at hardome”, another is Martha will “appear in one or both of the episodes directed by Miguel Sapochnik”. While it clear that the story is shifting South, why introduce characters that take the story beyond the wall, in a space so closely linked to the white walkers. One girl’s musings.
