I believe Drogon is probs much more intelligent than what is to be believed.
Another theory is that dragon bonding, is similar to warging. While you do see a glimpse of it in the show (most noticeably that Windling Eagle dude back in season 2 or 3), it”s more known in the books, that when a warg dies, a part of their human self lives within the animal they once warged. Perhaps, a part of Dany lives within Drogon. Maybe she genuinely loved Jon and she genuinely didn’t want him to die. And who knows, maybe the logical side of her knows that she had ultimately had been corrupted by the Throne.
