Dear ShatonTV

I don’t know the general feeling on this episode from the rest of the audience, but I sense it will be a mixed bag. Personally, I thought this was the worst episode yet, and I think this was a big step backwards after last week’s fantastic episode. This is why a show shouldn’t worry about the swerves and mystery, because you’ll end up with a bunch of scenes that don’t fit together at all. You’ll get characters who do things that don’t make sense. For all the work they put into keeping Amelia dark and mysterious, it looks like they are now dropping that narrative entirely. Which means the facade they put on episodes 1-5 (*to keep you, the viewer, suspecting she’s doing something bad), was all for nothing. Characters drive this story, and I thought this was a garbage effort to tidy up the story. It’s hard to create a mood and a pace they had episodes 1-5, then try to speed it up in this episode. It was totally off and I hope they right the ship by next episode.
– in addition, this was the first episode I was questioning the sequence and “mishmash” of scenes. I know some things mystery wise are becoming clearer and they definitely are focusing in on actual suspects, but aside from that they created what felt like a new tone and feel in this episode. I can’t explain it other than I felt differently about this episode while watching it than the feeling of the others. I only come to the conclusion that it’s the show, as a whole, (director, or writer, or even HBO), that’s more concerned with keeping us from guessing the ending, serving up a large foray of dead ends and/or filler, and that whole TV formula (*which is successful sometimes*) . Maybe i’m being too hard on this episode because it’s following what might be the best episode to date. I honestly can’t really put my finger on what it is, just a lot of what we were shown in this episode didn’t hit for me. Maybe they hope you’ll just get enthralled with the mystery and let the illogical or highly improbable moments go without being noticed? Which, no offense to anyone, but i’m sure a few people are fine with it. I love what this show has done this season, I love the acting, the writing is mostly good, I hold it to a higher standard than this episode, that’s all.

Oh yeah, and Big D, still think roland being gay is crazy???? I’ll hang up and listen to you’re response. (Just an fyi, i’m not the Raj (roger), and i’ll pop a cork on some bullet rye whiskey (#deepcutshat), while saying I was right 100 times. I just was observing a character, and took a guess based on what we were seeing, and my take on it, that said, it’s prolly not good on the show to bring it into play this late in the game…. but again, they need you to guess for 6 episodes, so they can wow you for 2. Doesn’t matter if it fits the story, layer after layer, just showing you they can fool you and keep you on you’re toes. It’s almost sad at this point, but westworld season 1 likely started this trend in TV formula evolution, the best analogy i have for it, is a hack magician, or criss angel, who pays a couple people to act surprised, hangs from a building, by a crane, acts like he’s flying or walking on air, and edits the crane out in post. Then says, I fooled you. Not really though. It’s still entertainment, just devolving rapidly. I just don’t want this to take away from the acting that’s been in display, which is all around top notch, even with scoots, Tom Purcell, right up until the awkward scream with the detectives, which left me speechless (not in a good way).

Shatt fan, Kenny

Don’t worry, I don’t take anything personal, and as a disclaimer, I know people get all bent out of shape when you are critical with a show, but in my opinion this episode deserves to be looked at critically, look past the mystery and see how unrealistic, and sloppy this episode was. I love this show, I just know a dud when I see one. That said, i’ll continue to watch, hopeful this was a one off terrible episode, but I have doubts they will know how to land this plane.
