Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hello guys –

I have two nuggets that have been gnawing at me. I would not call them actual “theories”, moreso just observations.

First, I find two scenes very intriguing involving The Man in Black. In Season 1 Episode 2, we seen MiB throw Dolores in the Barn, pull out a knife, and say “Why don’t we reacquaint ourselves.” We are led to believe that this has something to do with the fact Dolores finds a gun in her drawer and later in the barn. In another episode, MiB in similar fashion walks in on Maeve and her daughter’s house to Maeve’s extreme fear. He is also carrying a knife. Both scenes cut, and we do not know how they end nor what he actually does. I feel as though both of these are major scenes we will eventually cut back to and see how they play out. It would imply to me that the MiB is somehow responsible for “awakening” Maeve and Dolores, or that he has somehow tinkered with them.

Second, in this last episode, we have heard the host hybrid “brains” referred to as chestnuts. Season 1, episode’s two title is “Chestnut.” This is also the same episode we are first introduced to William, whereas episode 1 is “The Original”, when we are first introduced to MiB. It has always bothered be who “The Original” refers to. I always thought it was either Dolores (one of the original hosts) or Abernathy (where the “virus” of consciousness began). Now that we have a new reference to “Chestnut” being the hybrid host brains, maybe “Chestnut” refers to William, and “The Original” is a reference to The Man in Black being the original host hybrid.

Thanks for all the great work!
