A few additional comments:
1. Agree with Gene on the themes of humanity, purpose and doing what is right. Are there bigger more relevant themes – one needs to only look what all the major religions claim to be about??
2. Good science fiction is about putting broader more
existential/philosophical themes in a digestible form. This has been the case since the first sci-fi book, movie, and TV show..even the latest Avengers movie has an underlying theme of free willing and allowing people to make decisions that are not in their own personal best interest vs some having some “God like” person like Thanos making a decision on peoples behalf.
3. Sadly, I think WW is suffering the same fate as Battlestar Galacticia – people have an expectations it will be just a binary tale of humans vs robots. In reality, both shows are reflections on what is “humanity”, what it means to be “human” and how is “humanity” achieved. Hopefully, like the makers of BSG, HBO will stick with WW and let it tell its story (loop :>).
In summary, intelligent (and as a by product complicated) TV shows are so so lacking at the moment so hopefully WW will ‘survive” – no more “NCIS Chattanooga” or Big Bang spin off like “Raj’s Roadtrip” ….great stories are not told in 1 or 2 seasons (except Faulty Towers of course :>)
Best regards.

As a massive BSG fan, I can only hope “Westworld” has the same longevity and eventual emotional gravity. Aside from a spectacularly bad ending, BSG was one hell of a show.
