New Theory: Charlotte Is Logan

I just discovered your podcast this week and it’s great that you guys take and build upon multiple views, addressing both the positives and negatives of the show.

Watching the most recent episode, I started thinking about why a third party would have an interest in the tech at westworld, and why Ford would have reason to be extremely guarded with it to the point of taking out anyone who knew too much. Not because he is trying to protect his intellectual property, but trying to protect the outside world.

That being said, if all disease is cured, the next logical progression would be to stop aging altogether. We know people age in this story based on the appearance of MiB and Ford, but if Delos could potentially sell immortality, they could make a fortune. At some point they may have realized that modern medicine cannot reverse the aging process, but this theme park has come up with a way to create fully functioning beings that remain essentially age-less. The problem is, the only way they can operate is with a computer at the helm. I think Delos wants to sell consciousness transfer to gain immortality to the world at a steep profit.

The only problem has been, how will the investor know their consciousness has been transferred, and not just cloned. If someone is paying 6 to 7+ figures for the process, they will want to know it is really them on the other side. Delos has probably tested this for decades. Using what data they have been able to pull from the park. Perhaps now they are on the verge of perfection with a 95% success rate, but something crucial is missing.

Logan would have been getting up in age by now, frustrated with the idea that he might not be alive when the process is completed. So he volunteered for the latest round of testing, despite a few known bugs in the process. In an effort to keep a low profile and for the sake of experimentation, he chose to have his consciousness transferred to the body of a young female in her physical prime.

Both Logan and Charlotte have the same demeanor and no nonsense attitude when talking business, and both have no withdrawal in belittling a colleague. Both can switch between an attitude for business or pleasure at the drop of a hat. Both go right for the sex aspect of the park immediately, and both have a taste for violence with no concern for the well-being of the hosts.

I think Ford knows this is their endgame. And perhaps his “narrative” is creating the solution the hosts need to achieve true freedom, but he also needs to fake out Delos in the process.

Perhaps he also needs the MiB to continue on his quest because he has the best insight on the last piece of the puzzle that is needed for both Ford’s and Delos’ ultimate outcome.
