Have a Theory? Share It Now!

OMG you guys have become such a regular part of my week now. I’m starting to feel separation anxiety for the off-season.

The theories have gone a bit crazy and I have contributed my share to it. But the last few weeks I have been just enjoying all the references and connections. It displays the level of detail and research that have gone into the beautiful writing of this show. I hope that you guys can devote some time to that aspect of the show over the offseason so that it isn’t overshadowed by trying to solve the puzzle. Make Gene shake his money-maker.

A thought on the title: The Well-Tempered Clavier. There are hand-drawn loops at the top of JS Bach’s title page that scholars have been trying to decipher. The general theory is that an instrument must be tuned by cycling through every key, but the exact meaning of the loops is still a mystery.

  • You could say that to achieve consciousness, every emotion must be experienced. Is it possible that Ford needed Bernie to feel anger and betrayal? Also, now that he has understood his cornerstone and manipulated it, can he understand how to change his own personality attributes? Bernie will be back, they’ve had that argument before.
  • Ironically, when Ford says he needs to go cause he’s late for a very important date, he’s not wearing the pocket watch. Ford White Rabbit

Teddy. I don’t agree with you guys that Teddy is gen1.

  • The scene in episode 5 where MIB has just transfused Teddy, he clearly says that they changed the hosts and make them this sad sack of flesh and bone. He says that Teddy’s humanity is cost effective. I saw it as a marker that Teddy is a gen2 host and that if we see him at t-34, this indicates a false memory as part of Ford’s narrative.
  • Flood was Wyatt Earp’s biographer, but he was notorious for having told the wildly exaggerated story that he was fed rather than the whole truth<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_H._Flood,_Jr.>. No one would publish it and the manuscript now resides with the Ford County Historical Society.

Now that doesn’t take away from the Rog’s Dolores=Wyatt hypothesis, it just adds a spin to it. Will Teddy kill Dolores in the new narrative because he can’t tell her from Wyatt?

Last, a question. When Dolores goes to the church, we have a couple of costume changes.

  • When they show her go into the confessional and out, that is present day (trousers).
  • When she is down in the offices in the dress, that is t-34-x (It is before the park opened and before Arnold died because Ford goes running to speak with him).
  • When she is in the basement in trousers, I got confused. Is that present day? is there still a mess like that in the old offices? Or is she in present day, but remembering as she walks through the halls? Or is Ford planting a memory of things to come?

Lots of love, – Jez
