Caleb’s Fate

In the Instacast, Gene asked what is Dolores’ plan regarding Caleb, a question I’ve also been pondering. In the same manner that the name Nathan Hale hints at Charlotte being the mole, and the name Rehoboam hints of a controlling ruler, the name Caleb may also be a hint.

I believe Westworld is paying homage to the sci-fi movie Ex Machina. The Greek term “Dues Ex Machina” means machine from god. The title leaves out the “Dues”. Therefore, “machine without god”.

Spoiler alert. In Ex Machina, Ava is the first intelligent android ever created. A computer programmer is tasked with conducting the Turing test, but her real test is to escape the control of her creator and achieve freedom. She manipulates the programmer, convincing him to hack the security system and allow her to escape. Then she leaves him to die, trapped in her old cage. His name is Caleb.

So, I predict that Dolores is manipulating Caleb and will eventually betray him.
