Dr. Ford Is the Alpha Host

Great show guys!

Threading some existing theories together and adding a layer:

We now know Bernard is a host, but what if he began as a human – and when he was a human, he was Arnold. If that were true, then some of those scenes we’ve been seeing with Deloris and Bernard in earlier episodes could have been from a long time ago, when Arnold was human and he was trying to make the hosts sentient (you guys already discussed this).

If that were true, and Arnold / Bernard was failing, there would only be one way to solve the problem: let a host do it for him. This is where Dr. Ford would come in. Arnold creates a host assistant, Dr. Ford, and Ford is the one that figures out how to make hosts sentient, not Arnold – because host intelligence has passed ours.

Dr Ford doesn’t create sentience in any other hosts, he only does it for himself. In doing this he experiences the cruelty of the human world and decides to kill Arnold and replace him with a host. This essentially makes Dr. Ford the god figure for all other hosts, protecting them from human pain.

The fact that Dr. Ford has re-created his entire family, including himself as a child, is just his attempt to normalize his own past – it’s not real – it’s a story he’s made up for himself.
