Just had another though
When Drogon comes face to face with Jon after Jon has killed Dany it seems to me that Drogon is about to bake Jon then decides to go for the Throne instead.
I think the books and possibly the show have stated that dragons are highly intelligent, human level intelligent at least and Drogon most likely therefore comprehended that Jon had killed her. He also likely understood what he was doing when he torched Kings Landing. I also think that he realised that the pursuit of the cursed Iron Throne is what ultimately killed Dany and his two brothers/sisters.
I think this is why he spared Jon and then reduced the throne to molten metal.
Dragons are smart!
