Epi 3. A Different Opinion

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hi
Am a book reader and multiple reads and watches. Am going to skip the positives. There were many. (Like, at some point I believed every character could die. The dragon battles were wonderfully well done. The fog of war was deadly strategic.)

My son and I were both disappointed by the episode for the following reasons:

1. The big one: In literary fashion the first scene of the story included the Night King and/or his people. The last part of the story should refer to that conflict.

Yes. We’re not done with the story but…. 8 years of Winter Is Coming and the entire Children and Bran story and…. this is it??? There was nothing more than 1000’s of years of someone not killing the king?? I can’t accept that that is all. That’s a letdown. Seriously?

2. They went over the top with the dead army. They numbed me too the battle. It was too much and I lost a bit of interest. They have done many other battles better. Yes I get it’s the big battle.

Also, In the past one dead soldier is terribly hard to kill. Their body parts go on and on. Yes. Obsidian changes things.

But an OVERWHELMING force and not one main player dies other than the guy (Theon) who was sacrificing himself? So many of our characters had 3 or 10 wights on them. And ALL of them live. I would have been more engaged if they’d actually pulled back some and kept it a touch more real. More IS NOT better in this case. All main players should have died in this scenario.

They gave us what we expected in no big deaths. And they catered to the fanboys after the two wonderfully slow episodes.

In closing: I am thrilled the end is a full cohesive bonded attack on Cersei. (Although, she did NOT start as THE main character. This feels like a non-GRRM switch in the story. )

Thanks!
