Euron Is… Horrible Doesn’t Do Justice

Hey guys, I’m a rather new listener to the show, and have found your podcasts very entertaining. I also apologize if you get two emails of the same stuff here, I think I did a good. I dunno. Anyways, season 7 has honestly disappointed me. Not because it’s off book (I’m not a book reader but I know a lot about the books), but because they are rushing the plot, and thus the writing has gone down in quality considerably and the plot holes have grown. I get that it’s seven episodes, but honestly the excuse that they had limited story content remaining is not excusable; they have a shit load of story content they could’ve expanded upon, hell they had enough to do three more seasons of the show, but D&D made their fateful decision and we’re stuck with this. It’s garbage compared to the previous six seasons but still I would argue entertaining to watch, if you ignore the problems.

Anyways, the real reason I’m emailing you guys is to talk about Euron Greyjoy, the batshit crazy king of the Iron Islands. I’m not too happy with how they are showing him in the show. He seems to be an edgy comic relief guy who makes cheesy jokes about putting fingers in the bum. I was especially disappointed when I heard what he was like in the books; don’t get me wrong, Ramsay was a sadistic and brutal cunt, but book Euron is way more so. First off, he has an eyepatch in the books, but I can let that slide. Second off, he also has Valyrian steel armour, which would’ve been fucking awesome to see. The reason that his ship is called the Silence is because he was annoyed at how loud his crew was and needed “silence”, so he cut every crew members tongues out so they were mute.

In the books, Euron is not the youngest of the Greyjoy brothers, like he is in the show. In fact his brother Aeron, who is a priest of the Drowned God in the show, has nightmares about Euron, for when he was a child, Euron would go into his and his other brothers bedrooms and molest them. He now associates the sound of a door opening with Euron and gets severe shellshock flashbacks from that. In the books, he also talks a lot about conquering. He gets enthusiasm with his supporters by promising them to take over the Seven Kingdoms and to become King of the Seven Kingdoms.

Perhaps the worst thing he has ever done (apart from molesting his kid brothers), was he kidnapped Fallia Flowers (a bastard daughter of some lord from The Reach), raped and impregnated her, then cut out her tongue. It gets worse. He then drags a naked Fallia onto the ship decks, then ties her to the prow of the ship and leaves her like that for hours, perhaps days.

Euron also is highly delusional, thinking that he is the Drowned God and that people pray for him when he sails by. However, he is still a brilliant military strategist and an incredible fighter, which in my book makes him so much scarier than Ramsay. As fucked up as all this shit he’s done, I think showing these things in the show would’ve made him truly the greatest villain on Game of Thrones. Although show Ramsay is actually more like book Euron and show Euron is more like book Ramsay, I still prefer if they went ahead and showed Euron as he was in the books; a cunning, manipulative, brilliant strategical, and violent sexual predator. That would be very hard to watch, but the show has shown things that are near that level.

The fact they haven’t shown Euron or Yara since episode 3 is suspicious, it’s as if nothing is happening. If I were the writers, I would’ve had Euron do the things he did to Fallia to Yara, basically reducing her into a shadow of herself, just like Ramsay did to Theon. I apologize for the long ass email, had to make sure I got everything and even then, I did miss some other things. Keep up the good work!
