Fledgling Theory On Ww

Hey Guys,

I am elated to have a theory to submit to the telegraph!!! I have watched WW since Season 1, Episode 1, but truly hated the show for the entire first season. The only thing that excited me at all was discovering that Bernard was a host. I generally didn’t enjoy the complexity without what I considered to be an intriguing story. But I stuck it out because I trust HBO and their ability to make great shows (The Leftovers, The Sopranos, GoT, The Wire, Oz); plus, the show was very well done.

Enter Season 2, from Episode 2 on, and my tenacity has paid off!!! I am loving every episode thus far from No. 2, even though I have remained confused: Arnold/Bernard, the game/maze/door; 5 timelines with no obvious markers, the MIB’s motivations–I just don’t know! And then, EUREKA!, listening to your deep dive for episode 4, I got a theory!!!! Yay!!!!

We (the viewers) are all confused by the dissonance between what the MIB told us about the death/suicide of his wife, and the scene he flashes back to where it appears there is a woman who has cut her wrists and bled out in the tub, with the MIB racing up the stairs to find her. My theory connects this incident with two, maybe three, others: one is the mysterious newcomer, whom we are told is Emily, the MIB’s daughter. The other is Bernard’s reveal after he and Elsie dispatched the host/human Daddy Delos, that Ford had commissioned him to make a prototype for another host/human.

I believe the suicide flashback the MIB had was not of his wife, but of his daughter who like her mother, committed suicide in a bathtub. Thus, the actual Emily is dead, and the one we have been introduced to is the 2nd human/host Bernard was commissioned to make. This will explain how she survived the impact of a Bengal tiger and massive fall into the water. It may also explain her reticence to hook up with a host. Finally, this explains why a daughter from whom the MIB claimed to be estranged, greets him with a smile, and he greets her with a look of pleasant expectation.

Thanks, Guys! Love the podcast.

Your theory would at least explain why we now are calling Emily “Grace.” Nobody seems remotely curious about that odd fact.
