Ford’s Creations

This was an amazing episode, a definite high point for the series as a whole. Despite the beautiful cinematography, great soundtrack and solid pacing, Ford’s appearance this episode stood out to me most.
In the conversation between Ford and Akechta, Ford says he built Ake to be curious, but not fearful. Ford spoke to Ake candidly, wherein he seemed almost proud that his own creation achieved consciousness absent the “push” Ford presumed hosts needed. This got me thinking about the early days of the park when Ford and Arnold worked freely to make hosts and explore the technology. I wonder what expectations Ford had back then, if any, that impacted his work or the type of hosts he made specifically. But more importantly, I wonder which hosts were his sole creations and which hosts were solely made by Arnold.
If Dolores was the first host ever made, and made by Arnold, it seems possible that the likes of Angela and Ake (the alphas) might be hosts made exclusively by Ford. After all, both Angela and Ake are strong and intelligent. They are capable of surviving for long periods of time and they are very cunning in their interactions with both humans and other hosts. Angela and Ake were also the first ones used in the real world with the goal of attracting investors. This means they had to be among the very first ones made and perfected. Only the more goal driven and unsympathetic Ford could create convincing hosts that were capable of luring Logan by any means necessary. As we saw earlier this season, Arnold was not able to let go of his prized creation and even said Dolores was not ready for that kind of encounter/use.
Further, it begs the question of whether other first generation hosts were specific designs by Ford or Arnold and how that impacts them to this day. Though they were all made with the same tech and functionality, the personality and background differences given to them by their creators could attribute heavily to how each host traveled on a different path to consciousness. It likely means nothing of consequence, but it is fun to think about how the original hosts’ personalities could have been designed by either of the two men.
