Game Of Throne Is Just Too Rushed!

Hey guys, love the podcast yada yada yada

I know it’s been said already but I keep coming back to the same root cause of every issue this season – that of time.

It’s just too rushed!

Frankly, it was the same for Season 7 too.

For the first 5 or 6 seasons the show was actually quite slow, but had real momentum; the characters were really carefully developed and each scene had genuine value, even where the visuals weren’t that significant.

The show managed to be gripping despite the slow progression though, because each storyline was intricate and interweaved with others in ever-more-complicated ways.

Now they’re so short on time that almost every scene feels rushed, and – to be honest – over-distilled. While brevity can be a real strength in TV adaptations of literature, this show is now deviating from the very intricacies that I believe made it so popular.

There’s an over-reliance on stunning visuals to signal to the viewer that what they’re witnessing is momentous or politically significant – that’s great for the instant gratification but actually detracts from the story.

Anyway, I’m still a massive fan of the show and have no underlying issue with a show that evolves over time, it’s just frustrating to hear myself say those words I hate hearing from others: “the original stuff was the best, but then it went mainstream and it’s not the same”.

Thanks for everything
