Guys,

I have never emailed before, but, love the show. I have heard so many people complaining about both the military strategy AND the hard to see conditions. I think that this is exactly how the show meant to portray this battle to us. First of all, no one alive has ever battled the full, army of the dead. Jon had a couple of brief run ins, but, the dead measured in the 5,000 or so range. Now the army has grown exponentially and thus, no one knows how big it is. How do you prepare for an army of unknown size and how do you fight an enemy who is larger, foster, stronger and more resilient than your own?

The low light, and blizzard conditions were portrayed like they were so that we, the viewer could see exactly what our heroes were seeing. Which in most cases was nothing. The dragons couldn’t see to fight either the dead dragon, or the whites on the ground, thus neutralizing the livings sole advantage. Then wave after wave of the dead also conveyed to us how, no matter the strategy employed, the living were going to be over run. Therefore, even if the best military strategy had been implemented from the onset, they would still have no chance of defeating the army.

The only way to defeat this army was to cut off the head of the snake. Kill the Night King. And I have even heard people knocking how this happened and how it was anticlimactic. Which I completely disagree with. There wasn’t a single time that the living engaged the dead that anyone even got close to the Night King. On another podcast, it was suggested there should have been several Starks, Bran, Jon and Arya, who engaged him at the same time and that would have been more, “satisfying” of a defeat of him than one person sneaking up behind him and stabbing him once. I completely disagree. That scenario, multiple attackers on the Night King, would have been completely out of nowhere and would have made no sense at all.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing the Small Council on Friday.
