GOT Episode Six

Hey Guys,

Keep up the good work. I’m glad you guys are trying to stay objective and going over the good and the bad within each episode. It does seem that some of the critics of this final season are stuck in overdrive complaining about this season, and it does seem like complaining about this season is the consensus opinion, which makes it harder to take some of the criticism seriously. I don’t think this last season was the best season of GOT, but I certainly thought it a satisfactory ending to an unbelievable show.

My biggest complaint about the last episode is what you guys already touched on in the Instacast which was the tone shift after Jon kills Dany and the episode jumps forward in time. I felt the time jump to be jarring. It was almost like I was watching a play and there was an intermission. I felt everything about the last episode was mostly logical, Bran becoming King in a more democratic process was a nice twist, Sansa queen of the north, etc., except for Grey worm not kicking the crap out of Jon right after he killed Dany.

The show runners left it up to our imagination as to how Jon was captured, but I would have liked to see those scenes with Jon and Grey worm after Dany’s death. Grey worm seemed pretty pumped up executing Lannister soldiers the last time we saw him before he brings Tyrion to his sentencing as a bargaining chip, so do you really think Grey worm would just calmly arrest Jon after he kills Dany? It seemed like there was a power vacuum after Dany died and Grey worm and the unsullied just kept hold of King’s Landing, but then had no experience running a city or know who should be in charge? I felt like we were missing some scenes in that last episode with Grey Worm and the unsullied that would have provided more connective tissue to the meeting in which Bran is elected as King. Also, I think it would have been more believable if Jon was roughed up a bit by the unsullied while he was held, prisoner.

I feel like the series finale could have been a two-part finale. I think the first part of the finale could have ended right after Jon kills Dany and Drogon torches the iron throne. And the second part of the finale could have shown more of what happened after Jon kills Dany and before Grey worm and Tyrion meet with the powerful houses of Westeros. I’ll be interested to see the double D’s take on how they structured the last episode. It easy to criticize the double D’s but honestly I have no clue how to structure, write, or produce a TV show, however, as a fan it is hard not to feel like the last season was rushed in spots.

Overall an awesome final season and I really enjoyed the podcast this last season. Looking forward to future podcasts and shows.
