Got Season 7 Episode 4
Hey guys! A new listener here, just sending in some thoughts regarding last night’s episode of GoT and your take-aways shared on the show.
-Re: Bron and Jamie. I agree that there may have been an odd thing going on between them in the beginning of the episode leading to the idea that maybe this was becoming more of an employer/employee relationship rather than a friendly one, with Jamie not wanting to discuss the details of his last encounter at Highgarden and with giving Bron the bag of gold; however, during the battle at the reach that all seemed to disappear. Bron didn’t go for his bag of gold, but instead followed through with Jamie’s command and saving him in the end. I believe between Jamie’s armor and only having one hand, he will have to be rescued by someone and ultimately taken captive by Dany. Perhaps Tyrion will set him free at some point causing a further rift between himself and Dany that seems to already have been established? Dany was told seasons ago that she would be betrayed for blood, love, and gold– perhaps this is that moment. Also, Bron’s comment about men shitting themselves before they die was something said by Robert Baratheon in the first season.
-Maybe it’s me but Bran appeared warmer towards Arya than he did to Sansa. In my mind it seems maybe Bran has seen Sansa getting involved in something unsavory in the future. He clearly has seen Arya fighting the white walkers and this is the reason he gives her the dagger. Speaking of the dagger, when Bran tells Petyr “chaos is a ladder” at the end of their conversation, this is Bran’s way of letting Peytr in on the fact that he has seen much of what Petyr has said and done in the past… Petyr states that chaos is a ladder in a conversation with Varys and I believe also with Sansa in seasons past. I believe Petyr is beginning to realize with how much has happened to the Starks that he is no longer in control like he believed he was, before.
-I agree that ultimately Jon and Dany will consider marriage as a way to join the North and the South– that’s all I was thinking about during that scene in the cave.
I really enjoyed the battle scene. It reminded me of BotB in that it mainly followed Bron and it wasn’t switching PoV every 5 seconds leaving the audience with no idea as to what’s happening. I have waited a long time for Dany to use a dragon in battle and this did not disappoint. The Scorpion caused me a lot of anxiety because I don’t want any of the dragons to die, ha! I agree Dany should have turned around once she realized that weapon was at play, but then we wouldn’t have gotten that amazing final scene. It’s one of those common sense things that shouldn’t happen, but had to happen for the sake of progression of the storyline.
All in all it was a great episode with a ton of references to things that have happened in earlier episodes, which is fun. Definitely makes me want to start the series over again to make sure I’m not missing anything for the remainder of this season!
Looking forward to Tuesday’s show! Take it easy, guys.
