Thinking about the deep dive and your discussion of layers (loved it!). Reminded me of another potential symbol I’ve noticed: water. Immersion commonly represents delving into the subconscious (Jungian). So…

Cold storage is being flooded with water.

Man In Black meets Armistice at the edge of the river.

Lawrence’s daughter draws the maze in the dirt for Dolores as she’s sitting at the edge of a small pool (possibly a well?).

Man in Black asks Little Ford to get water from the river before he drains Lawrence’s blood into a water satchel in order to “save” Teddy. 5. Teddy’s last name is Flood.

Teddy’s last name really stands out this episode, in particular… we repeatedly hear him referred to as “Flood.” It seems water tends to propel the story line at critical stages of MIB’s journey, in particular.

Admittedly, I may be experiencing some confirmation bias at this stage since I got excited about this water/consciousness possibility the moment they went to cold storage in episode 1. The show presents such an interesting, convoluted tension between consciousness and the “subconscious” mind. Fun to theorize how water may be an intentional symbol for subconsciousness.

Okay, that’s it. I’ll try my hardest to hold all remaining e-mails for 107. 🙂 Thanks, guys! Loving your podcast! –Lysa (pronounced “Lisa”)St. Louis, MO
