Love You Guys

Hello!

I’m a new listener and I think you’re doing a great job. I’m a black woman from Chicago and I stumbled upon your podcast and at first I was shocked that there was no black representation in the hosting of such a racially charged show. I thought it was a bit off putting, and “typical”. However, from the first episode I was extremely impressed at how hard you guys try to deeply understand and share what you’ve learned about the black experience. Racial injustice is pervasive and systemic in this country and change can’t happen without Americans of all races joining forces to topple the oppression. The civil rights movement was bolstered by all races coming out to fight. We need all the allies with and without privilege that we can get. You guys are doing a tremendous service to fight our dark history by shedding light on topics and historical events that many people in this country have never heard of. If we don’t know how sinister the “monsters” are how can we truly equip ourselves to annihilate them? I get so excited when a new listener expresses that they didn’t know about sundown towns or Tulsa, because better late than never. Now they can have much needed conversations with people in their circles and spread awareness and open eyes to the realization that what we struggled with 200, 100, and 50 years ago is still happening today. I just about jump out of my seat when I hear you “get” things like why Christina died like Emmett Till in order to illustrate for white America the depths of the horrors that may not have been accessible to them before. This is so important. You’re in a hard position, but we need allies like you forging the way for others to dig deep into our white washed history and dig out the festering wounds so we can all find true healing and create a better country for us all. You’re killing it! Don’t be discouraged! Keep fighting the good fight!

Kindest regards,

Sarisa Hall
