My guess is like many things in this show there are layers within layers. Whether intentional or not it points to how good the art is in that we can discuss these things and find connections that may or may not have been laid out. Indeed, they are playing our well developed pattern matching cognition subroutines like master craftspeople. I suspect Ford’s statement to Sizemore is indeed operating on a couple levels.
