Prosopagnosia

Hey guys,

I agree with Big D that we cannot trust what Bernard is seeing. Specifically, during one of Bernard’s scenes, we see him shutting down and having severe issues, while we hear someone saying that he may be suffering from prosopagnosia.

Prosopagnosia is commonly called face blindness. According to Wikipedia, it is a cognitive disorder of face perception in which the ability to recognize familiar faces, including one’s own face (self-recognition), is impaired, while other aspects of visual processing, like object discrimination and intellectual functioning (decision making), remain intact.

I think this is very important going forward. We are now being introduced to further timeframes. First, we have the events immediately following the massacre. Second, we have the arrival of the Quick Action Team. Third, from the previews, we are going to see back to William, ? and others in the past.

What if Bernard really isn’t seeing things as they are? My theory is that his breakdown is attributable to some disorder like this and the scenes with Charlotte are not trustworthy.

Where I think he truly is seeing things clearly is with the Quick Action Team timeframe. And, for me, all those hosts in the bay of the sea isn’t what it appears either and could likely be a trap created by Dolores to lull the humans into a false sense of security.

This could also explain the opening scene. Bernard begins by apologizing to Dolores, almost coming back to his senses, or maybe even restarting at that moment. What is Dolores is analyzing Bernard there? This could be from a future timeframe or somewhere in between others, where Dolores is setting Bernard on a mission, much like Ford did to Dolores in Season One.

We know Bernard isn’t behaving properly. That may be something that is used to the hosts’ advantage.

Nice work, Travis. A lot of listeners have pointed out the opening scene in “Journey into Night” is Arnold, rather than Bernard, based on his clothing. What do you think?
