Delos Corp vis a vis William, obviously, has been funding the project: The sinister James Delos/Lazarus project has been lurking in the back story of Westworld since the beginning of the show, revealed itself finally, in Riddle, pushing our narrative forward into the last half of Season 2 and beyond…
However…Pearl tech needs a Ford, or an Arnold. Not a William.
Someone has to be behind the science, and it’s not those lackey assistants who wake up James over the last 159 iterations. They are technicians, not geniuses.
Who is the scientist, the artist, the coder? Neither Bernard, nor Elsie, recognized the language. So it is definitely a thing, else, why even point it out in the episode.
Whoever it is, by default, must be someone that William knows, and likely someone that James knew/knows.
And it probably is not Ford nor Arnold, as pearl tech values humans,and not hosts, and both Ford and Arnold are driven by their commitment to Hosts, and not humans…
Enter, Argos? I’m reaching, but there is a Gregory listed as an employee of Argos, alongside Ford and Arnold, on the Wikia page. I don’t exactly like that answer, and my hope, is that it is someone we have already been introduced to.

Remember that Ford is most interested in evolution, not humans or hosts. He believes humans have gotten as good as they’re going to get, and he wants to push further. So maybe he’s the perfect genius to marry a human mind with a hybrid body.
